I normally eschew endorsements. But in terms of precious brain processing functionality, this tool called Readability warrants everyones attention.
I posted screen shots as you can see above. The first one is an article about Twitter from The New York Times. The second is the same article transformed once I click Readability. Readability cleans up the page and standardizes anything I read.
All through my web experience, I've been increasingly forced to slog through countless web-page formats, advertisement pop-ups and rollovers and some unexpectedly embarrassing video/ pictorial content in a public area. All this to read something.
I resolved to print out everything I read. Then I had to adjust for the printer, network settings, browser capabilities and toner ink. All this to read something (I'm writing it again as I used to say it to myself every time).
Eventually, I ended up just subscribing to publications I used to read on the web to avoid all the bullshit. Then along comes Readability. Even the name itself makes it instinctive and therefore easy to use.
Reading is such a a simple way of life. The web and media has ruined my experience with it. And I'll be the first to admit how silly this is going to sound: Thank You, Readability? Okay, I said it.
